Comments: I gained a lot of weight in my early thirties. I had a successful art business that took over my life and all my time. I'd quit exercising and the weight piled on within one year. Don't know how much because I didn't own a scale. I went from a size 8 to a tight size 18 (and I wasn't even pregnant). After two years I got back into the groove of exercising again and got down to a size 16. For 4 more years I maintained this size by exercising and eating no more than 1600 calories a day. I chalked it up to age and heredity for being overweight even though I exercised and didn't eat a lot of food. Then I discovered low-carb dieting. I started with the Carbohydrate Addicts Diet, bought a scale, and dropped 30 pounds in 31/2 months. Got down to a size 12. But sugar was still a part of my life and I felt in order to low-carb for the rest of my life, I had to nix it for good. Then I switched to Atkins. Went from induction to maintenance to figure how many carbs I could eat in a day before I would start gaining weight (and fell in love with ketosis). I didn't lose more weight on Atkins but lost inches and dropped pants sizes. I now wear a size 6-8. I will eat this way forever.
