Comments: I have been overweight all of my life, with ups and downs. My last down was 5 years ago with a low fat diet and fen-phen; got down to about 200 pounds. When the drug went off the market, I was able to maintain but not lose. Then when I quit Jazzercise, all *$@! broke loose and I was on the uphill roll again!! When I went to the my GYN last Spring for my yearly (it was a bi-yearly that time!), my blood tests showed my blood sugar was way high and they diagnosed me with Type 2 diabetes. At 47, that wasn't what I wanted to hear!! All of my bloodwork was high. I was sent to another doctor for my diabetes in May. He told me the sad story about carbs and how I would have to watch them and get my weight down. He suggested the Atkins diet. I about died when I bought the book the same day and started reading it - I couldn't live without sugar and white flour!! Well, now I realize I can and will live without those foods!! I know eventually when I am on maintenance I will be able to eat some, just be very watchful of what I put in my mouth. I just want to thank you for being here on this message board and the encouragement I have seen.
