I've looked everywhere and all of the Full Fat Sour Creams I find read "Sweetened". Is this normal? What is it sweetened with and is it okay to use this to make YoCheese? Thank y'all for any input.

Have a blessed evening!

Do you mean sour cream or yogurt? I make yo cheese out of full fat plain yogurt. I find it in a large container by they smaller containers of yogurt. I have to go out of town for it, our local grocery store does not carry full fat plain yogurt.

Interesting you mentioned yo cheese. I have been wanting something different for breakfast and just bought some yogurt tonight to make yo cheese. I like to add blueberries and vanilla sf syrup to mine.

I wouldn't buy anything that says "sweetened" on the label. If sugar, corn syrup, or something with "ose" is listed, it's not legal. However, if there are natural sugars in it, then it should be okay keeping in mind the carb count.

I eat yo cheese during the week for breakfast with strawberries. I sweeten with just a little sprinkle of splenda. Remember, try it and see how it affects your weight loss because what works for one doesn't work for everybody.

How do you make yo cheese? What consistency is it? I remember someone a couple of years ago was always talking about it.
Thanks,
Sammy

Put a coffee filter in a strainer over a bowl and add one large container of full fat plain yogurt. Cover with plastic and let this drain in the fridge. I'm thinking at least 12 hours. You will be left with a very thick creamy yo cheese that has all the whey drained off. Supposedly the whey has a lot of carbs. I then sweeten this with sf syrups, add some strawberries or blueberries. Great alternative for breakfast.

I got to get mine draining tonight. I'll go do that right now.

There is some controversy over this as I'm sure many of you know. The claim is that the number of carbs (e.g. sugar) in the yogurt is eaten up by the live cultures and the final product doesn't have as many as the label says.

I haven't made yo-cheese in a long while but I do remember having real portion control problems with it.

In any case, if you try it and you stop losing, it is pretty obvious that you can't use it. If it doesn't affect you, well, go ahead and eat it.

Thanks for the information. I think I'll give it a try for a little something to eat for breakfast. I guess a trip to Trader Joe's is in order.

Sorry, I meant Yogurt not Sour Cream. And all of the Full Fat versions state "sweetened" on the front. I can't find a brand that doesn't. Can anyone recommend a brand other than Trader Joe's. I don't have one here.

Thanks! :)

I use Dannon plain, full fat. I find it in my supermarket.

Thank you! I finally found it. I was actually looking at the Vanilla. Silly me. Every time I went they were out of PLAIN! This time they only had 1 BRAND OF PLAIN FULL FAT! Good grief. Oh well, at least now I know why I could not find it. I made some last night and it was yummy. A 32oz container came out to be 1.25 cups. It dipped off over 2 cups of whey. I portioned it out into little 1/4 cups for little treats this week only after my workouts! The one I made last night was with a pump of sf cookie dough syrup. YUM!

Thanks y'all for all your help!
