Flourless Chocolate Torte
Martha Stewart Recipe

Pan Preparation:

Use a standard size loaf bread pan. Spray with Pam. Cut a piece of parchment paper to fit the bottom and long sides of the pan. Let the parchment just hang over the sides. The short sides of the pan don't need to be covered. Spray the parchment with Pam too.

Preheat the oven to 350 and place a shallow pan with water in there. You will be baking this in a water bath.

Ingredients:

8 oz. Bag of Hershey's Sugar Free Chocolate Chips (I buy these at Walmart)
1 stick of butter
¼ cup heavy cream
3 large eggs
2 tablespoons sugar*
½ teaspoon extract (mint, vanilla, almond, orange, whatever you like)

*I use the real sugar in this recipe, but you could just leave it out if you don't mind a less sweet torte. Or you could try splenda or truvia which I haven't tried yet. I figure two tablespoons of sugar in the whole cake is okay.

Over simmering water, melt the chips and the butter.

In a small bowl, whip the cream and set aside.

In another bowl, beat the eggs and sugar with a mixer until triple in volume.

Slowly add the melted chocolate mixture into the eggs. Use a folding motion, not stirring. Keep folding until all the chocolate is incorporated. Fold in the cream and the extract until blended. It will get a little thicker as you fold and be about the consistency of pudding.

Pour into the pan and place in the water bath. Bake for exactly 20 minutes. You won't think it's done, but it is. Take it out of the water bath and let cool. Refrigerate until cold.

Take it out of the pan and put it on your serving dish. This is so delicious and really worth the effort. The dessert is only about 1 inch high and is very rich. Serve with fruit and whipped cream.

Instead of using the powdered sweeteners I have sweetz free, the liquid Splenda. I like the way it tastes when baking and other sweet uses. I will have to give this recipe a try in the future, it sounds very good.

I'm bumping this in case anyone is sticking to their lowcarb plan for Thanksgiving and wants to make a delish dessert for themselves. This is outstanding. My DD was begging me to let her eat more of it! Ha-ha.

Ohhh I so want to make this but I live in the middle of nowhere and doubt I will find the choc. chips. If I don't find them now, I will be looking for them and will make it for Christmas. :D

Thanks for sharing.

I just made this. When 20 minutes was up I took it out of the oven. It's look jiggly, I sure hope that is right and it turns out OK.

The batter tasted pretty darn good!

Hi 4me..yes, it is very jiggly. Just refrigerate it until it is cold before you take it out of the pan.

It is very moist..like a nice creamy fudge. Now I want to make it!

I'll have to get some choc. chips tomorrow at Walmart.

Mom3..do you want me to send you some chips?

Thanks again...I will try looking here. I have to go to NH next week and can check the Walmart there. I will need to write myself a note to remind myself.

Try looking in grocery stores too. They have not been hard to find around here. Of course, your area may be very different. I live in a small rural area and am suprised they have them at our local IGA.

This was delish! Definetely one I will make again. I would like to try to figure out a way to make this without the SF chocolate chips though. Tummy is a little rumbly but we had a lot of rich food tonight.

Very rich and creamy!

Donna,

Do your choc. chips actually say sugarfree on them? I can find the semi-sweet at Walmart but not the sf.
I guess you could chip up a sf choc. bar and get the same taste.
I still don't know that I understand the way the dark chocolate
works with lowcarbers. The sites say they use a small bit of real choc. chips, but my problem is staying with the small bit! :D

I love this dessert! It's true..the choc. chips have sugar alcohols so you have to take it easy. I've never had any problem if I just eat one slice a day.

Julianne..yes, the product is Hershey's and the bag has a silver strip with Sugar Free written on it. I can get them at my Walmart and one other grocery store here called Lowes Foods. I bought some yesterday for $3.88.

It would be super expensive to crush up enough of those bars to make 10 or twelve ounces.

I can eat regular dark chocolate and not gain but you are right, it's hard to STOP eating it. At least with the SF chocolate you HAVE to stop eating it or else!

Donna,

Guess our Walmart doesn't have it! I may try it with the lowest carb dark chocolate chips I can find.
I knew you keep saying they are sugarfree and I just wanted to
really make sure you were finding some!
Even our Drug Emporium doesn't have them.
I think it's funny how we crave chips, many crave potato chips, but I crave chocolate chips!!! It's that salty versus sweet thing!

Julianne

That's a shame Julianne. Where are you? I wonder if they can be ordered from Hershey?
