Hi Jessica

Canderel is a sugar substitute, I had got into the habit of either having sweetened cream cheese or the pork scratchings with butter sugar and cinnamon. Have now managed to break that habit  although I am trying greek yoghurt at present - slightly sweetened, I don't actually use canderel either it's splenda :sunny:

Week 47 and a squinty lb lost, stalls stalls stalls. My average is getting down toward 1lb a week, but hey I'm nearly at a year so whoohoo to me just think how big I could have been :thankyou: :thankyou: :thankyou:

this week I hate this diet again. I have only lost a stone since January, I know it is better than putting anything on, but it is just annoying. And sooooo slllloooooowwwww.

I try and try but I just cannot get the weight to start dropping off again

So frustrating

Same here, kiddo, same here. Even a week of the torturous soup diet didn't budge anything for me, to speak of. I wish I knew a magical answer for us.

Have you tried calorie/carb cycling? Take the amount you eat in a week, and vary it into high and low days? Sometimes that will fool the metabolism. I need to do that, myself, but will try it next week when hubby is back in Seattle. It's just too hard to do with all the eating out we're doing.

Week 49 no loss again <sigh> I am 1lb off my first goal I am sure I stall on purpose

Jessica thanks for your support it does mean a lot.

Last Saturday I decided to do 7 days of strictness, now I am not a cheater per se, no bread cake chocolate etc, but I probably suffer carb creep on my veg amounts sometimes and I can get a bit carried away with nuts and cheese. My strictness was to cut out diet drinks and coffee (only 1 to 2 per day) to ensure I drank loads of water and herbal tea and to stop eating greek yoghurt or cheese with sugar substuitute. I am on day 4 and the scales haven't moved (yet :sunny: ) but I can feel a difference in my clothes. Today I picked up my 1992 copy of the diet and he has quite a bit about stalls etc in there that I hadn't read the other week.

So my plan and thoughts are

1. Do two days of the fat fast - have you ever done this?

2. Continue from that with at least a week of mainly protein

3. When that doesn't work.....either try his suggestion of a different diet for a few weeks - have you a suggestion of one to try? Or...

4. Explore further your idea of calorie/carb cycling - can you explain more about this or point me in the direction of info

I double checked and the new book doesn't have any info like this so it is all new to me and I am getting my head around it all.

I have now been on the diet for nearly a year, is this OK or should I consider a break? I don't want to as I have really only lost half the weight I should and I would love to lose more. It would be easy to be pleased and stop but I am still quite frankly overweight

Sarah, I have never done the Fat Fast and I'm not sure why, because I have heard many people report that it in fact DOES work. So I believe if I were you, that would be the next thing I would try.

As to the calorie cycling thing, might I suggest you Google "Dr Johnson's diet" or "Up Day Down Day Diet" or "JUDDD." That's what I'm doing right now. (It's not really doing much for me yet, but it's only been four days.) It is not specifically a low carb plan, but I am doing it grain and sugar free, as many people do, because I've learned that letting those back into my life is a guarantee of failure.

Best to you, Sarah. Sometimes stalls are just part of the process, alas.

Go you! I'd think that those fatty "mini-meals" would be pretty hunger satisfying.

Can't wait to see how it works for you!

One meal off finishing day two at present. If you eat each 'meal' slowly it is quite filling, just kind of boring and unsatisfying  Did wonder about doing a third day, but I think not, may try a couple of days again next week though

Hadn't realised how much you had posted on the non atkins diet thread, very interesting, I feel all you frustrations and to be so near goal as well, but better to stall than to gain I always think

And if one must stall, better to stall near goal than far from it, I suppose. I try to be philosophical about it, but it certainly does get frustrating. I know it's wrong, but it just upsets me to no end when I read the "advice" of people who coasted non-stop to goal with no stalls or plateaus. (This doesn't happen here on EA, but does on some other low carb forums!) How can they know what will help people who are stalled, when they never stalled, themselves? ](*,)

Then again, my main issue with them is probably just plain envy!

Carry on--you're doing great!

Well, that seemed OK, although my posted weight is 169, it had been yoyoing about 4lbs up down for three weeks, so the first day took of 2lbs and weighing this morning I was down another 2.5 lb so a .5lb loss if you see what I mean.

I did enjoy the two days and would do it again.

Today I bought ketostix for the first time and I will see what they tell me. My mouth does feel disgusting which is a good sign though. Today I ate mainly protein and will carry that on over the weekend and see where we go

For my fat fast fat fast I had either 2oz of cream cheese or 1oz of macadamia nuts 5 times a day, I made sure I always had a drink with them and ate them as slowly as possible to achieve a full feeling, by the evening of the second day I did feel I wanted something filling - the book does give you some other choices, but I liked the simpleness of the two ingredinets

Congrats! (And I know just what you mean--I am not my posted weight, either. It keeps yoyoing, and I refuse to accept that I might actually weigh more than my posted weight. ha!)

You going to keep going a few days, or stop now?

This morning I was a squinty 12 stone - my first goal, I will wait until Tuesday to confirm though.

I am off the fat fast, just 2 days of that, I am trying to eat lots of protein and minimal carbs for a couple of day and then will see what to do next.

The ketositx aren't very very dark!

Still 12 stone on Tuesday YAY, I am at my first goal - it has taken me 50 weeks

I would recommend the fat fast, it does shift something

I am posting this on Wednesday having been very ill last night, so I now weigh 11.12 and have actually lost 4.5 stone in total - I ma very pleased with myself
